Background
The agenda of nursing workforce has been proclaimed by the International Council of Nurses for a decade. The issues of workforce in nursing profession including migration, safety and welfare, violence in workforce, career path/ladder, emolument and quality development of nursing services, have been recognized as the most significant concerns among ICN member countries.
The ICN Asia Workforce Forum (ICN-AWFF) has been set up to reclaim the efforts of the initiatives. There were four ICN-AWFF successfully organized in this region. However, the mentioned workforce issues are persistent and still in the process of researching for appropriate solutions.
In November 2004, the 5th ICN Asia Workforce Forum and the 1st Alliance of Asian Nurses Association (AANA) is expected to take place in Bangkok, Thailand, aiming to serve as a platform for nurse leaders from 11 member counties to discuss and brainstorm on these issues. To celebrate this special occasion, the Nurses’ Association of Thailand envisages involving its members in this event by providing one-day seminar to public. The seminar entitled “Nursing Workforce: Issues and Challenging Trends in Asian Context” is proposed aiming to project the Asian perspectives on nursing workforce issues and its challenging trends.
